Traditional Reiki Master and Teacher |
|
Sylvia Lagergren attended Duke and Emory Universities and received her B.A. degree in 1959 from Rutgers University. In New Jersey she worked in teaching, psychological evaluation, and corporate administration. After working as a Hospice Volunteer for several years, Ms. Lagergren decided to pursue her lifelong interest in the body-mind-spirit connection. In 1995 she received her certification from the Cayce-Reilly School in Virginia Beach, VA, and operated a successful practice in therapeutic massage for ten years.
While at Virginia Beach, Sylvia Lagergren also took classes in the Usui System of Reiki Healing and experienced the profound impact it had on her emotional healing as well as ability to cope with personal challenges. Now a Reiki Master she practices and teaches Traditional Reiki, as taught to her by Masters Dorris Denby and Jocelyn Graef, both students of Grand Master Hawayo Takata.
For more than ten years Sylvia Lagergren has offered a weekly Open House/Clinic for people in the community who wish to experience Reiki. The Open House is staffed by certified practioners who volunteer their time. More than one thousand people have attended these sessions and been astonished at the immediate and long-term effects that Reiki has had, not only on physical condition, but also on peace of mind and personal well-being. The attendance and dedication of the volunteers as well as the response from the general public for this service testifies to the quality and effectiveness of Reiki treatment.
In addition to the Open House, Sylvia Lagergren also offers regular classes leading to Reiki certification at Levels I, II an III. These classes include the traditional "attunement" as well as instruction in the hand positions and Reiki practice. The Level-III training, which creates a new Reiki Master, includes instruction in the attunement procedures. Sylvia has inducted more than 200 people into the various levels of Reiki.
Ms. Lagergren has lectured on Reiki to many groups and organizations in the medical and other fields in the region. She has made presentations to Radford University and units of East Tennessee State University, including the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, the College of Nursing (undergraduate and graduate), the Kingsport Family Practice Center, and the School of Continuing Studies. So well received is Reiki that many doctors, nurses, and other health professionals have become her students.
The credibility and reputation of Reiki as an effective tool in complimentary medicine are now acknowledged in many of the top schools of medicine. Health professionals understand from their own experience that the paradigm shift in healthcare is augmented by this simple but profound method of healing––which Sylvia Lagergren is honored to teach and practice.
